    More than anything I want a big, hefty camp knife but cannot find what I want at any retailer. Does anybody know a good blacksmith that could make something like that for me at a reasonable price?

    [QUOTE=Ryan Dotson;n1817big, hefty camp knife ...reasonable price?[/QUOTE]

    So much subjectivity precludes me from even beginning, to answer your question.

    What does big mean to you how many inches?
    What does hefty mean to you, How thick do you want it?
    Camp knife? What blade style do you want?
    Reasonable price? How much would that be?

    I'm not trying to be a dick, I just can't without more information know what you want or are talking about? For me a good custom made knife is about $200 but that's me.

    A decent but not ultimate production knife is the Schrade SCHF36 https://www.amazon.com/Schrade-SCHF3...rds=schrade+36 I have a lot of problems with the knife but some work will make it passable like removing the powder coating. At under $30 it's OK. Production video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj7XM04-fJQ Full review, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUuhsrFMS_4

      And only mine

      Id take a look at the Condor line of knives and tools. I have a few of their blades and they are amazing knives for the money.

        I was really only looking to get a name and was going to cover the details with the blacksmith. I was thinking somewhere between a 9" and 12" blade drop point. If the spine could be at or just under 1/8", that would be ideal. I want a heavy blade for batoning firewood and other heavy work. I had never heard of Condor before, but it looks like they have a few blades that might work. I was hoping to spend around $100, but I know that is tough for a custom knife.

            I know of no knife maker, that will custom make a knife for $100.

            As to condor knives, they are good knives I own a few. The problem with the ones I own are the handles. The Rodan, https://www.amazon.com/Condor-Polypr...s=condor+rodan and The Varan https://www.amazon.com/Condor-8-Inch...s=condor+Varan are in essence both the same knife except for the blade lengths. Either might cover your specifications for what you called a "camp knife". However I would immediately remove the polypropylene handles and either cord wrap them or make some scales out of wood.

            If you like the Schrade I posted, let me know and I'll post the mods that will correct the aggressive chimping issue on the handle. Hope you find what your looking for My quest for the perfect knife goes on and at the moment I carry a Remington Tango https://www.amazon.com/Remington-Tan...emington+Tango I like that it's made in Italy and not China.

              I've never purchased a custom knife, but that does not surprise me. Thanks for the advice.

                Ryan, there are usually blacksmiths at craft shows, especially historic ones..there is a blacksmith shop also at silver dollar city in Branson mo. Call the tourism office in your state and ask them about craft shows featuring heritage artists. I see at least one at each of my shows.
